So what is the Dean's Award and what exactly do you have to do?


Below you will find information about the RSCM Dean's Award - don't panic - it is easier than it looks. Have faith in me!

Dean’s Award


1.   Sing 3 verses of a hymn v2 unaccompanied

2.   Sing a psalm 8 verses + Gloria

3.   Sing an anthem


1.   Read and clap rhythm in simple time with dotted notes

2.   Sing as an echo 3  2bar phrases heard only once (keychord + tonic given first).

3.   Identify these intervals – maj/min3rd, perfect 4th/5th (2 or 3 examples will be given.


Knowledge of:

1.   Treble stave

2.   Time values of notes

3.   Time signatures (simple time)

4.   Key signatures (3 sharps/flats)

5.   Simple Italian terms


Repertoire questions (Voice for Life)


Choir in context:

Bible – eg type of psalm (praise, sorrowful, thanks etc)

Liturgy – Sung parts of Eucharist

Season – choose one suitable and explain significance of choice and of season chosen


Ministry

What motivates them and inspires them as singers.

Their role in the choir – describe our different services – church seasons – why use music?
